Engaging civil society and private sector stakeholders to advance global health

Types of Events

The Global Health Council hosts and organizes events throughout the year. These events provide a platform for our members and partners to present their work and stimulate discussion on key global health issues

Please visit the Calendar for events information or contact Caitlin Holliday.

Congressional Briefings
The Global Health Council's Congressional briefings bring clear and sound information on critical health-related issues in the developing world to U.S. policymakers. They provide an opportunity for representatives from the field to put a human face on key global health issues currently facing Congress.

Policy Dinners
Policy dinners bring together senior-level NGO representatives, corporations, the U.S. Congress and Administration and donor organizations to meet with prominent global health figures. These invitation-only dinners provide a forum to discuss, off-the-record, critical global health issues and to lay the groundwork for collaboration.

Policy Roundtables
The Global Health Council convenes issue-specific and cross-cutting policy coalition meetings throughout the year. These coalitions provide a common space where member organizations come together to exchange information and identify opportunities and strategies to increase awareness of and commitment to issues by policy-makers and the public.

The Global AIDS Roundtable, HIV Implementers Roundtable and Malaria Roundtable are part of the Global HIV/AIDS and Malaria Initiative. The MNCH Roundtable is part of the Maternal, Newborn, Child and Reproductive Health Integration Initiative. The Appropriations Roundtable is part of the Global Health Council’s work on examining the U.S. policy and budget priorities

Annual International Conference on Global Health
Approximately 2,000 representatives of the global health community – including program implementers, civil society advocates, practitioners, public and private sector leaders, donors, academics and researchers – gather at the community’s leading annual event. Sessions focus on policy, research and practice issues, and strategies and recommendations for a better future in global health.

The Global Health Council engages civil society and private sector on global health issues and concerns, works with members and partners, and serves as a strong voice for civil society in Washington and other global forums.

This work includes:

  • Fostering and focusing discussion through policy roundtables, the communicators working group, the Annual International Conference on Global Health and events throughout the year;

  • Providing opportunities for GHC's member organizations to engage U.S Government officials through formal consultations, Advocacy Days and Congressional briefings;

  • Promoting the exchange of information among public and private sector stakeholders through publications that synthesize peer-reviewed and unpublished reports.

Opportunities and Products

World Health Assembly Delegation
Each year, the Global Health Council leads a delegation of members and partners to the annual meeting of the World Health Assembly (the World Health Organization’s decision-making body) to review the WHO’s activities and priorities for the future.

Research and Policy Reports
The Global Health Council produces research reports that identify, review and synthesize the most accurate evidence to provide members and partners with accessible information. This information is used to promote evidence-based programming and policy. Publications include policy and research reports, as well as fact sheets on a variety of global health issues.

Research Symposia
Although there are many venues for researchers to present the results of their studies – e.g., professional conferences, academic lectures or seminars, and scientific journals – there are few forums that facilitate the discussion of conducting research or that foster interdisciplinary dialogue. The Global Health Council's Research Symposium, held as part of the Research Track at the Annual International Conference on Global Health, is a unique opportunity for researchers to engage in multidisciplinary discussion of complex health issues.
