The February 2010 edition of Health Affairs looks at the potential of information and communications technology, or e-health, to transform health care on a global scale. The issue focuses on current use of e-health in the developing world, the challenges of expanding e-health there, and matters that need to be addressed so that the full potential of e-health can be achieved.
On February 16th, Health Affairs will be hosting an event to discuss the global e-health climate. Speakers will include: Richard Gakuba, eHealth Coordinator in the Ministry of Health of Rwanda; Ticia Gerber of the World Health Organization; and leading e-health experts from the United States, Europe, Latin America and other nations in sub-Saharan Africa.

UN Special Event: Engaging Philanthropy to Promote Women Empowerment and Gender Equality

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), will host a special event, “Engaging philanthropy to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment”, organized by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the United Nations Office for Partnerships (UNOP) in collaboration with the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) and the United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
The key objectives of the special event are as follows:
-Promote concrete initiatives by the philanthropic community and initiate new partnerships that would accelerate progress in reaching the targets in MDG 3
-Expand multistakeholder engagement in the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE To End Violence Against Women Campaign and
-Provide a platform for all actors involved in the work of ECOSOC to increase awareness among the philanthropic community on the progress made and the challenges faced in the achievement of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 3 – to promote gender equality and empower women
