As a politician, diplomat and international envoy for humanitarian efforts, Stephen Lewis has dedicated himself to improving the human condition. He is a passionate advocate for initiatives that control HIV and empower women in health, and is a visionary on moving public health programs into action. Formerly the UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa for Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Mr. Lewis is Co-Director of AIDS-Free World, an international advocacy organization that works to promote more urgent and effective global responses to HIV/AIDS. Mr. Lewis is a Professor of Global Health at McMaster University and Senior Advisor to the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. He also served as Deputy Director of UNICEF and as Canadian Ambassador to the UN. He is author of the best-selling book, Race Against Time: Searching for Hope in AIDS-Ravaged Africa. The Departments of Defense and Health & Human Services and the Embassy of Iraq are proud to announce the 3rd International Iraq Health Symposium on May 20-21, 2008 in Washington D.C.
