2006 Award for Photography
Finalists

This photo, taken by Tanya Habjouqa, was taken in Deliej, Sudan, outside of an International Medical Corps clinic. Here, a mother brings her sick baby to the IMC clinic, resting in the shade, placid as she waits her turn to see the doctor.

Tanya Habjouqa's work as a journalist and documentary photographer has taken her to Iraq, Darfur, Uganda, Kenya and Turkey — documenting conflict, refugee and health crises, muslim minorities, and social and cultural transitions for a range of periodicals and humanitarian organizations.

Habjouqa two-steps photography and anthropology, wielding her camera to document war, displacement, poverty and the flux between social change.

She holds a B.A. in Applied and Visual anthropology from the University of North Texas, with an emphasis
in social analysis and action and Middle East Studies.
