Background
Over its 33-year history, the Global Health Council has convened thousands of public health professionals from close to 100 countries at our annual conference. During that time, the conference has featured a wide range of health themes on women, children and youth, the environment, and post-conflict settings, to name a few. It is this diversity that has given the annual conference its reputation as one of the premier gatherings in the field of global health. As the Council now moves forward, continuing to offer our community the highest-quality content, networking and shared learning possible, we realize it is time to recognize a fundamental truth. All themes point to one theme and one goal - improving the health and well-being of the world's poorest and most disempowered peoples. Like a destination with many roads leading to it, the achievement of our common goal has many themes. They alternately converge, intersect, diverge and move in parallel. In 2006, we claim them all.
For 2006, our goal - and our destination - is improved health for all. Whichever road you are on, please travel with us for awhile, and share the stories of your journey at our 33rd Annual International Conference on Global Health.
