Submission Guidelines | How to Submit | 2006 Award Recipient | For More Information

Deadline Extended to March 15, 2007

The Global Health Council's Photography Contest is dedicated to drawing attention to health issues that have a global impact and to celebrate this year's conference theme, Partnerships: Working Together for Global Health.

Each year, the Global Health Council holds a photography contest inviting both amateurs and professionals to submit selections of their work which clearly illustrate the theme of the Council’s core issues of women’s health, child health, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS and emerging health threats.

The Global Health Council recognizes the ability of photography to convey great emotional depth and understanding of issues which are often difficult to discuss, and seeks to highlight the important contributions to understanding and action made by the winner of the award.

The winner's work will be prominently displayed at the conference and will appear in Global Health Council publications with attribution.

2006 Award Recipient

This photo, taken by Tanya Habjouqa, was taken in Deliej, Sudan, outside of an International Medical Corps clinic. Here, a mother brings her sick baby to the IMC clinic, resting in the shade, placid as she waits her turn to see the doctor.

Tanya Harajouqa's work as a journalist and documentary photographer has taken her to Iraq, Darfur, Uganda, Kenya and Turkey — documenting conflict, refugee and health crises, muslim minorities, and social and cultural transitions for a range of periodicals and humanitarian organizations.

Habjouqa two-steps photography and anthropology, wielding her camera to document war, displacement, poverty and the flux between social change.

She holds a B.A. in Applied and Visual anthropology from the University of North Texas, with an emphasis
in social analysis and action and Middle East Studies.
