
Ten Years On: Preparing Systems for Future Needs will launch the Council’s 32nd Annual Conference, Health Systems: Putting Pieces Together. Join moderator Nils Daulaire, president and CEO of the Global Health Council, and speakers Afaf Meleis, professor and Margaret Bond Simon Dean of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing; Chris Murray, faculty director of the Harvard Initiative for Global Health; and conference co-chair Jo Ivey Boufford, professor at The Wagner School and clinical professor of Pediatrics at New York University Medical School, as they discuss innovative approaches to health system creation and modification, as well as what the future of health systems will be.
Today’s activities also include the Poster Session and Welcome Reception from 12:30 to 2 pm in the Exhibition Hall. Come to engage with poster presenters and stay for a light lunch. See pages A62 to A65 of the conference program for a list of presentations.
Council Launches Interest-Based Caucuses at Annual Conference
In response to member interest and the Council’s own commitment to continuously seek opportunities to enhance the value of membership for both individuals and organizations, it is launching two member-organized, interest-based caucuses under the auspices of the Global Health Council. Come to the Council's booth in the exhibit hall during the lunch hour today, where representatives from the two caucuses: "The Spirit of Alma Ata 1978 Caucus" and the "Faith and Global Health Caucus" will be present to provide information regarding their objectives and scope of activities. The two caucuses will also present brief remarks at tomorrow morning's Membership Breakfast meeting, 7:15-8:15 am in Congressional Room A (map).

The Transformation of the Muhimbili National Hospital & Health Systems Strengthening in Tanzania

A public-private partnership of the Abbott Fund, Axios Foundation and the Ministry of Health/Tanzania, Tanzania Care is working to strengthen the health system in Tanzania through the rehabilitation of Muhimbili National Hospital. The goal of Tanzania Care is to increase access to care and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS. Panel discussants will each speak about key elements of the Muhimbili rehabilitation effort and how it relates to health system strengthening in Tanzania. In addition to summarizing the more successful elements of the effort, discussants will speak to the technical, managerial and political challenges encountered as well as lessons learned in their resolution.
