2007 Gates Award for Global Health Winner

Since 1974, the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) has helped improve lives and strengthen communities in Thailand.

Founded by Mechai Viravaidya, the organization is honored today for pioneering HIV prevention and family planning programs that have become international models in these fields. PDA’s innovative approach to community development benefited more than 10 million people throughout Thailand.

2007 Jonathan Mann Award Winner

Dr. Bogaletch Gebre is a pioneer in eradicating the harmful and well-entrenched practice of female genital excision (FGE) in her native Ethiopia, where she has long displayed a strong commitment to expanding and protecting the rights of women. Affectionately known as Boge (BOgay), Dr. Gebre founded an NGO called Kembatti Mentti Gezzimma (KMG), or Kembatta Women’s Self-Help Center in 1997, after completing her education in Israel and the United States,
including a PhD in epidemiology. more >

Global Health TV will feature daily programs with journalist-led reports on key global health topics, interviews with experts, and daily highlights of conference activities and featured events.

Conference attendees will be able to watch continuous global health-related television programming at select viewing locations throughout the conference venue.
