Approximately 2.5 billion people in more than 100 countries are at risk for contracting Dengue as a result of unprecedented population growth and unplanned urbanization, combined with increasing human migration and travel. Approximately 90 percent of patients with the most severe infections from this mosquito-borne disease are less than 15 years old. Currently, the only preventative measures available are individual mosquito protection or mosquito eradication programs, but that is about to change.
Our panel of top experts in industry and government presented what is being done to combat this global disease. Speakers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and vaccine manufacturer, sanofi pasteur, discussed what Dengue is, its impact on public health, and new measures on the horizon to prevent this infectious disease.
Speakers Included:- Dr. Jean Lang, Associate Vice President, R&D Travel/Endemic New Vaccines Program, sanofi pasteur
- Dr. Otavio Oliva, Regional Advisor on Viral Diseases, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
- Dr. Ron Rosenberg, Associate Director for Science, Division of Vector-Born Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
