16 Congressional Candidates Have Signed Pledge To Support Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Strategy

As of Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, 16 members of Congress and congressional candidates have signed a pledge sponsored by the AIDS Action Council and the Global AIDS Alliance Fund and to support a comprehensive strategy to fight HIV/AIDS in the United States and around the world. The pledge commits candidates to help ensure the U.S. is contributing to obtaining universal access for all HIV/AIDS services, in part by making certain the $48 billion authorized over the next five years for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is appropriated. It also pledges candidates to support reforms in foreign aid delivery, evidence-based HIV prevention policies, HIV/AIDS policies that address the needs of women, and a national AIDS strategy.
