Council Facilitates Development of Community Recommendations for 2009 Transition Staff
Dec. 22, 2008
Throughout the fall, the Global Health Council has convened meetings for members working on all the core global health issues to develop the top recommendations for the incoming Obama Administration and for the new 111th Congress. Transition documents have been submitted by the Global AIDS Roundtable, the Malaria Roundtable, the TB Roundtable, and the maternal health member community already. The GHC also has participated in the creation of transition documents for the child health and family planning communities as well as an overall Council staff-generated transition document addressing both macro structural issues affecting U.S. global health programs and recommendations for immediate changes that can be accomplished by executive order and the Administration’s instructions. In addition, the GHC recommended next steps on HIV/AIDS policy to the new U.S. Congress in a community statement issued on World AIDS Day.
Member organizations also have developed appropriations asks for fiscal year 2010 for the new administration to consider for the President’s budget request, which is expected in April.
