World TB Day 2009 Congressional Briefing: Helping America Reduce the Global Burden of TB

As the world's TB experts head to Rio de Janeiro for World TB Day under the theme "Simply, Stopping Tuberculosis," the U.S. government is in the midst of creating a five-year global TB strategy required under the Lantos-Hyde Act. The U.S. theme for the 2009 World TB Day is "Partnerships for TB Elimination."

The Global Health Council, the American Thoracic Society (ATS), Eli Lilly and the World Health Organization (WHO) held a briefing to discuss what the U.S. executive branch and its congressional overseers need to consider from some of its partners while developing and implementing its five-year global TB strategy.

Tuberculosis: An Update on a Growing Threat at Home and Abroad

The Council and partners from WHO, ATS, and the Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation held a briefing on the House side of the Capitol on the status of the global fight against TB. Presenters updated us on the status of global multi-drug resistant (MDR) and TB/HIV co-infection; domestic TB; TB Control and the intersection with the global economic crisis; and current TB research and development.
