Health Systems Strengthening in El Salvador

Nov., 2009

USAID has awarded Abt Associates a follow-on contract to expand its efforts to strengthen the health system in El Salvador. Building on Abt Associate's existing work in El Salvador, which started in 2001, Abt Associates' will leverage its expertise in technical areas such as sector-wide strategic planning for health, and human resources and logistics management. These are areas where Abt Associates has considerable experience and that have not been part of their current or past terms of reference for technical assistance in El Salvador.

Abt Associates' strategy to address the challenges is built on years of close collaboration and relationship building with our counterparts in El Salvador's Ministry of Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS), as well as with USAID cooperating agencies, key health sector participants, and international donors. Their strategy is also informed by the experience of their technical support team in El Salvador working with MSPAS on issues of governance, health planning, health financing and administrative decentralization (municipal health, human resources and logistics planning for the supply of drugs and medical supplies).
