Washington, DC - The Global Health Council announced today that Allen Moore, Deputy Chief of Staff and Policy Director for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN), will become a Senior Fellow at the Council on March 1, 2005.
Moore, formerly Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade and Legislative Director for Senator John Danforth, has worked extensively on global AIDS policy and legislation on behalf of Sen. Frist. His engagement with global health issues affecting the world's poorest communities traces back to his years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the 1960s.
"Working for Sen. Frist on HIV/AIDS and global health issues has been extremely gratifying," said Moore. "I am very fortunate to be able to continue this important work with the committed members of the Global Health Council and its first-rate team of people."
The Global Health Council is the world's largest membership alliance of health professionals working to promote public and private support of programs that improve health conditions for those at highest risk of disease and death globally. As a Senior Fellow at the Council, Moore will focus on policy issues affecting U.S. bilateral and multilateral efforts to improve health.
Announcing his appointment, Global Health Council President Nils Daulaire, MD, said, "Allen's experience, guidance and understanding of how policy decisions are made will bring global health to a higher orbit among leaders in Washington and internationally."
"Global health is about getting things done, and throughout his distinguished career, Allen has shown his commitment to the issues we care most deeply about, and to putting results before rhetoric," he said. "I am delighted to welcome him to our global community of service."
Moore is currently in Russia reviewing HIV/AIDS programs and will take up his new responsibilities at the Global Health Council at the beginning of March.
