10-11:30 am
Global Health Council
1111 19th Street, NW - Suite 1120
Washington, D.C.
As the HIV/AIDS pandemic continues, new infection rates are increasing faster among women than men, and women are seeking better ways to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Please join us in the second of our series of discussions about female-initiated HIV prevention methods, and learn why cervical barriers, such as the diaphragm, may provide women with protection from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Over 30 people joined the Global Health Council, Ibis Reproductive Health, the Cervical Barrier Advancement Society, CONRAD, PATH and ReProtect, Inc. to hear the latest information about newly approved cervical barrier devices, modified cervical barriers under development, and other barrier devices that may be combined with candidate microbicides. Advocacy activities and access issues will also be highlighted.
Speakers:
* Marianne Callahan, Deputy Director/Clinical Director, CONRAD
* Thomas Moench, President, ReProtect, Inc.
* Shannon Cali, Senior Program Associate, Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH)
Moderator: Julia Matthews, Ibis Reproductive Health and Cervical Barrier Advancement Society
