Commemorating World AIDS Day 2007 the Global Health Council, the African Union Mission to the United States, Family Health International (FHI) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) held a congressional briefing and reception. The briefing focused on emerging topics in global HIV/AIDS for the coming year, including new prevention technologies, nutrition and mainstreaming the response to HIV/AIDS with basic health-care services. The briefing was followed by a reception honoring those affected by HIV/AIDS and shared plans to mobilize civil society for the 25th Anniversary of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, a global event observed in over 100 countries on the third Sunday in May.
