Write a Letter

Let your friends, neighbors and community leaders know about global health issues by sending a letter to your local or national newspaper or other newsletter, journal, or even a commonly visited blog.
Did you know U.S. policies and politics play key roles in the way our neighbors in the developing world get and stay healthy? And that our neighbors’ health has a direct effect on our own? Did you know you can make a difference in those policies and politics? There is a common misperception that advocates have to be well-known or highly influential people, but the truth is that many of the most successful advocacy movements have been led by ordinary people, who are well-informed and moved by an issue and are committed to making a change. The late U.S. Senator Paul Simon (D-IL) once said, "If there were just 10 people in every congressional district who really pushed on the issue...we could literally change the world." The Global Health Council can help you find out what’s happening - in your district, in your state, and in the country - that will affect the lives of people around the world. Then you can make a difference by becoming an advocate for those children and adults whose voices are not now heard.

The Global Health Council’s Advocacy Manual offers simple tips for writing letters to your representatives, scripts for calling them, and directions for arranging and completing face-to-face meetings.
